Quantitative Face Fit Testing

The Scientific Approach

For All Types of RPE

Disposables, Half Masks & Full Face Respirators

What Is Quantitative Face Fit Testing?

The Ambient Particle Counter

An ambient particle counter will count the particles in the ambient air and measure them against any particles that are leaking in through the seal of the mask against your skin.

Statistics known as ‘Fit Factors’ will be produced during the test. These figures demonstrate how well a respirator is sealing to the skin of the individual, thus how well it protects them from the hazards that they are exposed to.

Why Choose Quantitative Face Fit Testing?

This is the most effective way to evidence how well a respirator seals to the skin (or not!).

Real Time is used for training purposes but can also be used to determine where there is a leak in the seal. This can be effective when determining if the respirator will be effective for the individual or not.

Accurate results are produced at the time of the test. It is NOT reliant on the individual being able to do anything other than the short exercises provided.

Quantitative Face Fit Testing reduces the risk of cross-contamination between users.

What Can The PortaCount Test?

An ambient particle counter can test all types of tight-fitting Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE). These include:

disposable respirators, half masks and full face respirators.

Disposable Respirators

The ambient particle counter can complete face fit testing on all disposable respirators: FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3.

Please contact us for more information the differences of these, what your requirements are or for general guidance.

If other head worn PPE is used when wearing the mask, these should also be brought to the test. These include, ear defenders, safety specs or goggles, or hard hats that have ear defenders attached.

If you would like us to supply you with your disposable respirators, please let us know.

Half Masks

The ambient particle counter can complete face fit testing on all half masks, provided they have a particulate filter attached to them. If you use additional or combination filters, these should be brought to the appointment.

If other head worn PPE is used when wearing the mask, these should also be brought to the test. These include, ear defenders, safety specs or goggles, or hard hats that have ear defenders attached.

If you would like us to supply you with your half masks, please let us know.

Full Face Respirators

The ambient particle counter can complete face fit testing on all half masks, provided they have a particulate filter attached to them. If you use additional or combination filters, these should be brought to the appointment.

If other head worn PPE is used when wearing the mask, these should also be brought to the test. These include, ear defenders, and hard hats.

If you would like us to supply you with your full face respirators, please let us know.
